It is with deep regret that we bear the sad news of the untimely death of our longest serving employee Paddy Burke, who died on Wednesday.
Paddy was our longest serving staff member and a dear friend to anyone who had the pleasure of working with him. He worked for Tomás Sr. (and indeed his father before that) on an ad hoc basis in the mid 1970’s. He continued to work for McKeon’s on a job basis from 1979 and became a full time permanent employee from 1985. Paddy could always be relied upon to produce excellent work and to finish everything to the full satisfaction of clients. He was an excellent attendee and missed very few days throughout his employment.
Paddy came from an area renowned for producing excellent plasterers, (reputed as producing the greatest number of plasterers per capita in the country!) namely Dunmore in Co. Galway. He himself was a brilliant tradesman plasterer and equally talented across all trades in the building industry. He took huge pride in every task he performed and got on with everyone he came in contact with.
He was a close personal friend of the McKeon family and many others he worked with, both he and his wife Phil remained loyal to our family throughout all those years. Paddy’s loves were his family, his work, his garden and his golf… and he was no mean golfer!
He worked for us in DCU almost permanently on maintenance works for at least the last 10 years and was highly regarded by all he came in contact with and indeed made some very good friends on the Campus. His sudden and untimely death has left us all devastated.
Paddy Burke, an excellent tradesman, employee, family man and a true friend, he will be sorely missed by us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Phil, Brian, Padraig and all his family at this time.
Ar Dheis De go raibh a anam uasal.
