McKeon Group won the public tender for design and installation of the VEC Conglomerate’s EERF Lighting Works. The contract involved the design of a lighting upgrade and installation in 9 Schools in Counties Monaghan, Louth, Meath and Kildare. Kildare VEC managed the project for the Conglomerate.
The Schools varied in size and age so a number of different technologies were utilised. These included occupancy sensors in classrooms, new T5 fittings in classrooms and corridors, induction lighting in gym and large halls, absence detectors in offices and small classrooms and a number of other control features.
The project was on very tight timescale as works had to be completed by the end of November in order to be eligible for the SEAI’s EERF Grant. Works started over the Halloween mid-term break, but much of the works had to be carried out during term time and after hours meaning Health and Safety was of utmost importance.
Real World calculations and adjustments were carried out in the months following the completion date. The projected savings from this project amounted to a reduction of 231,053kWh of electricity or over 125tonnes of Co2 per year.
